Vitrification of Bottom Ash from A VR MSW incinerators
نویسندگان
چکیده
During incineration of municipal solid waste (MSW), various environmentally harmful elements and heavy metals are liberated either into bottom ash, or carried away with the off-gases and subsequently trapped in f ly ash. If these minor but harmf itl elements are not properly isolated and immobilized, it can lead to secondary environmental pol/ution to the air, soil and water. The stricter environmental regulations to be implemented in the near future in the Netherlands require a higher immobilization efficiency of the bottom ash treatment. In the present study, MSW incinerator bottom ash was vitrified at higher temperatures and the slag formed and metal recovered were examined. The behaviour of soluble elements that remain in the slag is evaluated by leaching extraction. The thermodynamics of slag and metal formation is discussed. The results obtained can provide a valuable route to treat the ashes from incinerators, and to make recycling and more efficient utilization of the bottom ash possible.

Behavior of Radioactive Cesium in Municipal Solid Waste of Thermal Treatment Plants after Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Accident – 16626
Municipal solid waste (MSW) contaminated by radioactive cesium (r-Cs) has been treated by various thermal treatment facilities in Japan. However, the behavior of r-Cs in their plants is scarcely known. Therefore, we investigated 4 types of the thermal treatment plants to understand the r-Cs behavior during different thermal treatments of the MSW. The distribution of r-Cs between residue dischar...

This study aimed to identify distribution of metals and the influential factors on metal concentrations in incineration residues. Bottom ash and fly ash were sampled from 19 stoker and seven fluidized bed incinerators, which were selected to have a variety of furnace capacity, furnace temperature, and input waste. In the results, shredded bulky waste in input waste increased the concentration o...
متن کاملVITRIFIED BOTTOM ASH SLAG FROM MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE INCINERATORS - PHASE RELATIONS OF CaO-SiO2-Na2O OXIDE SYSTEM
Vitrification is considered to be an attractive technology for bottom ash treatment because it destroys the hazardous organics, contributes to immobilization of the heavy metals, and additionally it reduces drastically the volume. The main components of the vitrified bottom ash slag are SiO2 , CaO, Al2 O3 , Fe2 O3 , Na 2 O and MgO, and the compositions have direct effect on the glass formation ...
متن کاملSolubility and adsorption characteristics of Pb in leachate from MSW incinerator bottom ash.
The solubility and adsorption characteristics of Pb in leachate from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash was studied by batch experiments. The solubility of Pb in leachate was 1-2 orders of magnitude lower than that of Pb in carbonate solutions. Adsorption experiments showed bottom ash have high adsorption capacity for Pb. To evaluate a controlling component in bottom ash, quar...

Vitrification is one of the technological options for treating toxic waste. This paper reports the results of the feasibility study of utilizing fly ash from municipal waste incinerators by powder sintering technology. This process was used to transform vitrified incinerated fly ash into a CaO–Al2O3–SiO2 system of glass ceramic products. The major phase exhibited is gehlenite (Ca2Al2SiO7), whic...
